Established almost twenty-five years ago,
Summerfield has always maintained a strong sense of community spirit.
Our group leader, Mrs Janet Ball, has been a part of Summerfield for
almost twenty years, during which time she has seen the location
change, but the ethos remain the same.
We specialise in providing a balanced range of activities
and experiences for pre-school children, focusing on learning through
play and fun. Our objectives are that the children gain confidence
through developing their social, intellectual, emotional and physical
skills in a happy, caring, safe and stimulating environment. Providing
an essential introduction to learning.
Our curriculum is planned, well in advance, although
we feel that an element of flexibility should be maintained in order
to fully respond to and maximise the spontaneity of the childrens'
ideas. At Summerfield, we aim to provide an atmosphere where every
child can learn the joy of discovery whilst developing at their
own pace. We believe implicitly that it is better to build on small
successes than to faces tasks too difficult to accomplish.
Children can be admitted from 2 years and 9 months
to 5 years and will be introduced to Summerfield gradually, making
the transition as smooth as possible. The settling in process is
conducted in accordance with the needs of the child, with parents/carers
remaining with the child until he or she feels comfortable about
being left.
Wherever possible, places are allocated to suit
the needs of the family, however, we do operate a waiting list, as
places are limited.
Summerfield Nursery runs Monday to Friday from
9:00am to 12:00, during school term time.
As we aim to encourage the children's confidence
and competence in all development areas, we ask parents to provide
simple clothing and footwear which children can eventually manage
for themselves.
We believe that children should be given the
opportunity to move freely from one activity to another, although
experience has taught us that a degree of familiar routine provides
the children with a feeling of security, whilst enabling assessment
of the progress of the session. An outline timetable would be:-
