Award Badges

Membership Award

The Membership Award is the first badge you work towards. It allows you to find out what Scouts and Scouting is all about.

Group Name Tape

The Group Name Tape tells people exactly what group you come from. Some Groups which have more than one Troop may have an additional tape underneath to distinguish your Troop.

District & County Badge

The UK is split into Counties and Areas. Each County has its own badge. The County is then further split into Districts. These badges serve to pinpoint your location in the UK.

Group Award

Group Awards are aimed at bringing a whole Scout Group (or Sections within a Scout Group) together to work towards and achieve an award. They also promote activities within the Balanced Programmes of each Section.

Scout Challenges

The Challenge Badges complement the Balanced Programme. These have been developed to extend a Scout's skills and experience. There are Eight challenges: Outdoor, Outdoor Plus, Adventure, Expedition, Community, Creative, Fitness & Global

Activity Badges

Activity Badges are optional, but they provide an opportunity to reward a young person who has taken part in an activity over a period of time. They should raise interest and extend a young person's skills throughout their time in Scouting. There are Seventy Activity Badges in the Scout Section

In Addition to the Sections Activity Badges, there are four Activity Badges staged across the Sections. These are: Information Technology; Musician; Nights Away & Swimming. The Staged Activity Badges have been designed to provide a seamless approach throughout the Sections. Four each badge there are five levels available. This means that a young person can gain whichever badge is appropriate to the level they have reached. It is possible, for example, for a Beaver Scout who is an excellent Swimmer to gain a higher level badge than a Scout who has just taken up the activity.

Chief Scouts Award - Gold

This is the Highest award available in the Scout Section.

Joining In Awards

The Joining In Awards recognise a commitment to Scouting. They celebrate a Scouts participation in a Balanced Programme over a period of time. These badges are not section specific. They recognise the length of time a young person has been a Member of the Scout Movement, rather than as a member of any individual section.

Moving On Awards

This Award is presented to a Scout when they are invested into the Explorer Unit. The Investiture should take place on their first official meeting as an Explorer Scout.
