Jailbreak 2003 was a great success, over £500 has been raised to this date, the estimate was £300. The Eagles took the trophies handmade my Charles himself. The Eagles won walking a distance of 4.9 miles, the Cobras were close behind, just an extra 200 metres would have got them the prize, they finished with a total distance of 4.7 miles. The troop were taken to Grafham Water in Cambridgeshire and then taken to a secret location (Melchbourne). From there the teams were by themselves although there was a leader close behind them checking up on them every now and again.

Here are some more reports of the day:

The 15th march was the comic relief jail break we met at the scout hut, we were taken to graffam waters and given our tasks for the day, we had to find a phone box, church, post box, a minor road and a public footpath. Scouts were sponsored by friends and family for the event with all the money going to comic relief total raised so far is £550.12 some of the photos taken can be seen on the website the winning team was the eagles and all who took part had a great day. And the weather was good for a change.

St. Georges Day Parade 2003

Once again a good parade luckily the weather was nice unlike last years Remembrance day parade which was a little bit wet! 17 Scouts attended this years parade with the rest of the 1st Stotfold Scout Group. Tom D held the flag this year and we attended the service at the church in the centre of Biggleswade. After that we made our way back to the meeting place, on the way we had to look at the mayor and the Inspector of Biggleswade Police.

Scrapheap Challenge
We all enjoyed this night, building contraptions that worked (in the Tuesday troops case anyway) and then seeing who could fire the ball of paper the furthest. I have to say well done to the Tuesday troop who managed distances of 2 1/2 metres, while the Monday troop reached a lousy top distance of 55cm. I’m sure that everyone (except the Monday troop) would like to do the night again.

Music Activity Weekend
On the 12th and 13th of April 03 a selection of scouts came to the scout hut for a music activity weekend. On the Saturday morning a women came to teach us some line dancing. Some of the scouts didn’t like it but say (a quote from Jamie S) “it was fun! ”
After the dancing we got into groups of about 4 to make our own songs. The best song by far was called Killer Cat and was created by, Daniel C, Jamie S, Jonathan B and me (Ben R). You can download this and many other songs on our website www.stotfoldscouts.org.uk.
In the afternoon the whole scout troop recorded our own song and video, which was, help by the Beatles.
In the evening all the groups came back at different times to record their own songs. Remember all of the songs and the radio show can be downloaded at www.stotfoldscouts.org.uk.
On the Sunday we all made our radio shows which were aired in the evening.
In a conclusion of my report, Tom D says, “ Avril Lavigne is fit!” ‘What kind of conclusion is that?’ (Tom.)

AGM 2003
The annual scout AGM was held on the 13th may. We were disappointed with the lack of support from parents, very few attended, parental support is vital in the running of the scout group and help is always needed if only for a few hours, the treasurers position was unfilled by the end of the meeting. The scout group supporters association handed over a cheque for £2000 raised by their hard work. Reports were read out by the beavers, cubs, scouts and explorers, all have had a very busy eventful and fun year with their various camps and activities. A big thank you to all the leaders helpers from the scout shout team for what they do for they do for us, without them we wouldn't have a scout group. Congratulations ! to Charles who was awarded his wood beads.

Community Challenge

The 1st Stotfold Scout Troop has been working towards their community challenge badge. On the first night the whole scout got together to try to clean out some of the forest next to the scout hut. We cut down some of the fallen trees and managed to clear some of the paths.

Community Challenge Practical Night 2 : Roecroft School (Monday)

The second night of the challenge was at Roecroft school, we were clearing the wildlife area next to the now tarmac covered newt infected swimming pool. The Monday troop came in force (cough) with 7 turning up on a bank holiday which is kind of good for us. We started by chopping down thorns and clearing paths, anything that might be a hazard to the children. We were all worn out by the time we had finished for the night, except Bonno who just kept thinking about his girlfriend so that he never got tired !! ;)

Community Challenge Practical Night 1 : Woodlands

The first night of the Community Challenge was working around the woodland area next to the scout hut, we pulled branches out of the river, chopped branches back to clear walkways and made hedgehog hides. Luckily only one minor injury (Tom H!) Lawrence, Tom H and Jed got to work on the fishing base type thingy. Everyone enjoyed themselves.
