- Patrol leaders should actively support the
Scout Leaders. Remember that your attitude and actions will be
followed by the other member of the Troop.
- Patrol leaders should take time to talk and plan with
their assistant patrol leader. Involve your APL in the work of the
patrol and delegate things to him.
- If a patrol leader cannot attend a
meeting or anticipates being late, then they must contact his APL
before the meeting.
- Patrol leaders should
arrive five minutes (at 7:55pm) before the meeting is due to start
(usually at 8:00pm), and
encourage their patrol members to sit down and be orderly.
- On a uniformed evening, the patrol
leader should check his patrol members for inspection. Neckers can
be redone, hands washed, buttons done up and even shoes cleaned.
- When asked to “fall in” by a leader, the
patrol leader should ensure their patrol is lined up and quiet. Once again, leading by example
is very effective.
- When the leader is ready to inspect the
patrol, the patrol leader should call his patrol to attention (e.g. Tigers, Tigers alert).Once the patrol leader has been inspected (there appearance should
be perfect!) then they may join the leader as they inspects the other
members of his patrol. When the patrol inspection is complete, then the patrol leader
stands his patrol easy (e.g. Tigers, Tigers stand easy). Ensure that the patrol stand quietly while other patrols are
inspected.
