Another hot, sweltering day.
When Andy and I were washing up the breakfast dishes at 9:00 and it was hot, so you can imagine what it was like between 12:00 and 2:00. However we have had a busy and productive day. Today was designated as
Medieval Day as so we all had to dress up and offer related activities on our camp site. We had stocks and sedan chair racing.
10:00 saw us all dressed up as Knights of the Round table. Well all except Andy who was
Friar Tuck! What a superb friar he makes!
The boys went off to walk round the site and participate in activities offered by other groups, while the Explorers and Leaders stayed to run our activity.
Anyone secured in the stocks was pelted with sponges dipped in water. After some hesitation from
passers by, this attraction proved very popular especially as the weather heated up. We had no shortage of people willing be placed in the
stocks and even more people willing to throw the sponges. Guide Leaders, followed by Scout Leaders seemed to provide the largest audience.
After we had dried out we went to a picnic at 1:00 in the main central area of the camp site. As we munched on our ham and cheese rolls, we were entertained by the performing talents of our international visitors.
Back to our site and more stocks. I'm sorry to say that yours
truly sat down for a quick rest and promptly fell asleep. However, suitably refreshed, further stints at the stocks followed.
Evening meal was at 6:00 and maintained the high standard of
culinary excellence. Gammon, with mustard sauce, new potato and peas, followed by treckle tart and custard.
Charles and I are off to a meeting at 9:00 to find out about tomorrows activities, but today has been a good day. Our group of 32 are part of the 5000 here from all over the UK and the world. It is an inspiring experience.

To continue where Nick has left off. The evening activities for the Scouts and Explorers consisted of crafts, karaoke, DJ fun (disco) in the arena and a rock band in the main arena. The weather has been brilliant and we have been coating the Scouts with sun tan lotion, but now the evening is drawing in the clear
skies mean that it is cold.
We had an interesting meeting planning activities and have managed to sort out
tomorrows events which will consist of activities like climbing, rifle shooting, quad bikes, golf and more... We are also booking activities for the rest of the week which
include water activities like water skiing, canoeing, sailing and rafting. Also a day out in Nottingham on the Wednesday.
The boys seem to be enjoying themselves and they have a large amount of activities for the rest of the week. The leaders have been doing the washing up for
Saturday and Sunday but it is now the responsibility of a tent team for each day. Tomorrow will be the
responsibility of the Explorers.
The Scouts got to sleep very quickly after our evening meeting due to being very worn out from the days activities..
One of the activities in the morning activities (10 - 12) is
Sherwood fm. I don't know if any of ours will be on but I will get them to text you if they are as you can listen to the broadcast online.
I have got an interesting activity for tomorrow as I have
received an email for a Switzerland Scout and I plan to deliver it. I guess they thought they could email any scout from our email address.
Here's to another day of meeting people.
