Closing ceremony
Today has been quite a day. As you know, it rained a lot last night. We didn't have any more problems with tents, but some other groups did. Many have now left the
camp early, some leaving the tents behind to pick up later. We however do not have that option and wouldn't do it anyway. We woke up to the rain and all congregated in the mess tent for breakfast. After breakfast it was clear that the rain was not going to stop and were informed that the activities would not be running.
So what did we do?, well the only thing that Stotfold Scouts can in a crisis, SING
We sang lot's of songs, even had Lawrence on his clarinet. We were so load that we had several Guides and Rangers join us in song and sang to the sub camp staff over the radio.
Later in the day the rain began to subside and some of the activities were set up in some of the large marquees. Then it stopped raining then it started to rain.
The rain stopped and we prepared for dinner. Tonight it was to be a BBQ and we had purchased some disposable BBQs to cook on. We also purchased some chips from the local town (which involved pushing the van out of the mud).
The evening entertainment was the closing ceremony and we were determined to make it more interesting and enjoyable than the opening ceremony. I had brought some yellow hair spray with me and we all wore our yellow t-shirts and yellow
neckers. So we went in force armed with our drums to assist us in our noise making. We led the
sub camp to the main stage. There we were treated to a bit of talking and shouting and then the main disco.
Stotfold were spotted by the DJ due to our yellow hair, yellow tops and
enthusiastic dancing and were asked to come on stage. There we danced/jumped and then sang along to Bohemian
Rhapsody.
After a couple of hours of dancing at the disco we were given an excellent firework display. After which everyone was very tired and we had an early start in the morning, so it was goodnight to everybody.
