Outdoor Plus Challenge 2011 - Get Me Out of Here I'm a Scout

This very challenging camp at Phasels Woodas was for 10 Scouts who carried out many tasks with very little help from the Leaders. This year’s Outdoor Plus camp was organised by Gemma, John and Gary with the help of three Scouts Oliver, Ben and Daniel who did it as part of their Promise Challenge.

The camp had the theme of “Get me out of here I’m a scout” and the organisers set out two challenges each day. Saturday was unlucky dip were two blindfolded scouts had to find stars in cold porridge, maggots and sawdust! The next challenge was “The Sweet Shop” where two scouts had to eat horrible flavoured sweets.

Sunday's first challenge was “Hop & Pop” where nine balloons were filled with either water or flour and two Scouts on space hoppers had to burst the balloons to get stars. The final challenge was “Tread carefully “ where blindfolded Scouts attempted an assault course.

To complete the Outdoor Challenge the Scouts had to put up tents, light an alter fire, keep it going all day by ensuring there was enough firewood, organise their weekend menu from given provisions, cook all meals on these open fires, and erect a bivouac shelter to sleep in.

The scouts also enjoyed pot holing, the Cresta Run and the Letter Game. Stars were awarded out through the camp for good behaviour, camp gadgets, cooking, working as a group, winning challenges. The camp was great fun and very rewarding.
