This camp was part of our Adventure
Challenge and also the time when all members of the Scouting
movement were endeavouring to be under canvas to celebrate the
Scouting Centenary.
We set off from the Scout Hut with
full packs and walked across the fields to Boyd Field. On the way,
we stopped at midday and cooked lunch on trangia stoves.
Once the tents were put up at Boyd
Field, the Scouts set about making their own "biscuit tin ovens".
This involved digging a fire pit, putting the tin over the pit and
then covering it all in mud. Marinated chicken has never tasted so
good!
It started to rain about 10:00 in the
evening on Saturday and never really stopped. The Scouts
enthusiastically stoked a fire for most of Sunday to keep warm, but
with the poor weather forecast for Sunday night and all day Monday,
we broke camp at 6:00pm on Sunday.
However it was possible to improve
our archery and air rifle shooting shills during the wet Sunday.
Many thanks to all the Scouts who
stayed positive in very wet circumstances, to the leaders to gave up
their time and for Lawrence for playing his saxophone!
