18th to 20th November 2005
The weekend started
with the Children in need games night which ran from 7pm to 9:30pm.
The evening was open to any boy aged 10 to 14 and we had 45 boys
attend. The evening was a big success and raised around £120 for BBC
Children in Need.
Over the weekend 24 Scouts stayed at the Stotfold
Scout HQ. We kept all of the equipment out from the games night and
Scouts were able to use this all weekend. On the Friday night we set
up a big screen and watched a movie (Dodge ball) and then headed off
to a very frosty set of tents. As some of the Scouts complained that
it was too cold (-8), the Scout leader showed how mad he was by
sleeping outside without a tent (see pic below).
On the Saturday we woke up to a cooked breakfast.
We decided to go out for a walk in the early afternoon and headed
off to the Stotfold Cemetery (Sounds morbid but it is an interesting
walk) and then off to the Riverside rec for a game of football. In
the evening we held our annual chip shop challenge, where we
purchase chips from all 4 of the chip shops in Stotfold and taste
them to see which is the best tasting. The results were as follows:
1st: UK Fried Chicken
2nd: Charlie's
3rd: Vegas
4th: Peking House
In the evening we decided that we would sleep in
the Scout HQ and all the Scouts brought their sleeping bags in and
slept in front of the big projection screen, where we watch 2 movies
during the evening.
On Sunday we lost half the Scouts to football or
rugby but we were still able to have some films on in the morning
(Star Wars) and packed up camp in the afternoon with dry tents.
The weekend was a great success and everyone
enjoyed themselves. It was good to see a lot of non-Scouts along for
the games night.
