Wednesday 4th August 2004 - Visitors Day

Today was open day and we awaited an influx of visitors. We had the families of some of the Scouts and Explorers turn up to have a look around the site and see whats going on. I hope that we made a good impression and you can see the type of activities that we do on summer camp and the state the boys tents can get in (I apologise for the state of the Explorers tents).

All day the activities we non ticketed and anybody could have a go on any of the activities, which led to some long queues.

In the morning we had a Scout team enter the '5 a side' football tournament and we managed first place with an excellent team that consisted of Ben, Adam, Daniel Co, Jacob H, Jake and Tom (I know that's six, they swapped around throughout the game. There was some excellent football skills shown and they were very impressive.

We had an olympian fair in the main arena in the afternoon which was a large market. Everyone had to put on a fundraising activity that the participants and visitors could take part in. We ran the slippery pole, which was good fun, even though we had to carry it all down to the arena.

The evening activities consisted of the Mr and Mrs Essex show, a gang show, a urban disco as well as an excellent campfire on our subcamp.

From a leader point of view, today has been quite relaxing and we have just been showing people around the site as well as looking at the stalls in the olympian fair. The Scouts and Explorers have all been busy taking part in any activities they can find and buying anything that they can spend their money on.

It's just gone 1am and everyone is now asleep. We are giving them all a lay in tomorrow morning so they can catch up on a bit of sleep.

I am still planning to try and get some photos and videos up on the web. I did not get a chance today but I will look at doing it tomorrow. You can try either of the following links tomorrow evening and they will work if I am successful. They are a video clip and audio clip of our entry into the battle of the bands.

I will leave you with a couple of short reports from a couple of Explorers.
