A day in the life of a Scout Leader on camp (Charles Kilby).
After a night of waking up several time in the night to check that my feet were still there, I was awoken by Steve at 8:00am (Not carrying a cup of tea). After which I fell back to sleep and was awoken again at 8:30am
Everything had frozen in the night and the mud that
covered the site had frozen solid and stayed that way for the rest of the day. Which was good as it gave a solid ground to walk on.
After a warm English breakfast I briefed the boys on the days activities and plans. The Scouts had activities from 10am to 12:30am where they took part in activities such as climbing,
quasar, surf simulator, gyro, push ball, clay pigeon shooting, computers,
simulator archery, shooting, quad bikes, assault course, radio, pedal karts, crafts and more. We have decided that this weekend the leaders will do the cooking and washing up in order for the Scouts to be out and about doing the activities and keeping warm. I took a trip into town to pick up some supplies for the day (bread, milk, soup, fruit, matches and a paper).
The lads had sandwiches, soup and cake for lunch. After which they resumed activities from 1:15pm. I went and picked up the Scouts t-shirts and gave them out in the evening. I met some of the Scouts on my travels and managed to get a few photos. I also managed to get a game of push ball in, which is a large inflatable ball that you have to push into the other teams goal. Good fun and muddy.
Andrew Brember cooked the evening meal of chicken tonight, which went down very well. The Scouts decided that they would have a wide game before they would depart to the cinema and discos which were on at the campsite centre. The leaders went to the leaders bar where we could relax for an hour away from the boys and have a coke. (And yes it was coke!). We all got together at 10:30pm for a boogie at the disco, only to be greeted by heavy bass music which was not to any of the Scouts or leaders taste. So we didn't last very long and headed back to camp for a chat and then off to bed.
The day has gone well with no major incidents. Michael S of course had to injure himself in some way just to keep up with his tradition. Lawrence managed to loose his boot in the mud, which I had to dig out. Michael D was found up to his knees in icy water but has now
dried off a bit and warmed up. Other wise a very good day.
