Sherwood 2003 - Online Diary

Wednesday 6th August 2003

A day trip out.

Today we woke the boys up at 7:00am ready to get breakfast and catch the coach to Nottingham at 8:45am. We booked places on a coach to Nottingham. we decided we needed some good indoor activities in Nottingham due to the heat. We booked some places at a swimming pool in Nottingham and gave the Scouts an opportunity to cool down and wash. After the swimming we had lunch in a local park in the shade of the trees.

The afternoon consisted of either ice skating or shopping. Some of the Scouts wanted to go out and spend their pennies some were able to go around the city centre. The rest of the Scouts went to the National Ice Centre and had a great time trying to stay upright. All of the Scouts did very well at skating, especially those that were roller bladers. Even Stoney managed to work his way round the rink several times without injuring himself.

We got back around 5pm ready for dinner. In the evening the Scouts had many activities that they could take part in including swimming, crafts, campfire, disco and the live 60's band which was very good.

Some of the leaders went for a walk around the site and managed to take part in some laser clay pigeon shooting which was one of the activities open to leaders in the evening.

Not sure if I should mention this or if it shows how mad we are, but Richard S will be entering the Miss Sherwood 2003 contest tomorrow. We met some guides on the coach to Nottingham who will be helping to give Richard his make over and also purchased him a crown when they were out shopping.

After the Explorers didn't get into the finals for the football, perhaps they can succeed in tomorrows Hockey competition. I will keep you posted.

I am currently writing this while laying outside in the open with the Scouts not that far away making lots of noise as they are sleeping out under the stars tonight. Lets hope they quieten down before I have to send them back to their tents.

Tomorrow we have booked a trip to the robin hood centre in Edwinstow for the morning and have on site activities in the afternoon. The evening will be our international buffet.
