Sherwood 2003 - Online Diary

Monday 4th August 2003

Zone 2 and Crafts

Today has been another boiling hot day at Sherwood 2003. This morning we woke to another cooked breakfast. All the Scouts have to ensure that their tent is tidy in the morning as we have Andy doing a tent inspection and we have to raise the sides of the tents and tidy their kit.

The Explorers have had the task of duty tent today and have had the responsibility of washing up and tidying the campsite.

The first activity of the day was the Zone 2. This consisted of the climbing tower, archery, rifle shooting, Sherwood fm, traverse wall, crazy golf, internet cafe and quad bikes. Most of our lads started off on the crazy golf but eventually progressed to the climbing tower which is made from an old electricity pylon and is very high. I caught a few of the Scouts in the internet cafe reading these reports and checking out the main Sherwood site.

After lunch which was filled pita breads, we had crafts in the afternoon. The leaders knowing from experience that all the Scouts would not want to do this, we took them all their and knew that they would enjoy it, and had trouble getting them to leave. All the Scouts came back with woggles, decorations, puppets, bird boxes, glass engraving and more. The explorers enjoyed it so much that they were late for their football match (Sub camp tournament). The Explorers have gone through the first 2 heats and are playing again tomorrow.

With an update on our email from Sweden, we managed to find the person who it was for. He is camping on our sub camp and was his birthday today. We have invited a couple of the Swedes to our party on Thursday and also invited some Norwegians, Irish, Americans and the sub camp staff. We hope to get a few more countries invited tomorrow.

All through the day there has been auditions for pop stars. We did not enter anyone but the finals were shown in the evening. After which there were live bands playing in the arena.

In the evening myself and Nick went to a meeting to see what was planned for the next few days. We have got 11 boys going sailing at the national water sports centre and the rest will be rafting, canoeing and having water fights on the on site lake.

The Scouts were in bed and quiet at 11:30pm.

Here is a report written by Calum

Today we where on site doing activities in zone b which consisted of climbing, crazy golf, quad bikes, traverse wall, archery and rifle shooting. I did not do many activities though as it was too hot to queue up for half an hour. In the afternoon we did crafts and we made puppets, woogles, corn dollies, glass etching, pyrography and cd photo frames. Later on in the evening the e football team played 2 games which they won 1-0 and 2-1 they are playing the finals are tomorrow. Its now 11:30 and I'm going to bed.
