R U up 4 the challenge?
A weekend of patrol challenge
activities at Phasels Wood campsite. The weekend was based on the TV show of Fear factor.
The camp participants were
divided up into teams. Each team camped in their own area with their
own tents and equipment. Each team were able to gain points at a number of activities over
the weekend. Teams were faced with some scarey and some weird
challenges.
The Scouts took part in climbing,
potholing, swimming, archery and cresta run.
Teams were also be marked on their
camping skills and needed to impress the judges (leaders) with their
skills in putting up tents, cooking, hygiene, camp layout, team
working skills and more...
REPORT
The Friday we got to Phasels Wood
campsite at around 7:00pm and set up the site. Once everything had
been set up they had supper (Hot dogs) and attempted to go to sleep.
They failed in their task and got to sleep around 2:00am.
Saturday we started the day with
climbing where scouts could can 50 points for getting to the top of
the wall and 20 points for attempting the wall. We also had a speed
challenge, where Shane got first place and got to the top in 37
seconds.
The lunch time challenge was the
potholing complex and we offered the Scouts 50 points for getting
round the complex and 20 points for attempting the complex. Again we
also offered a speed challenge where 1 Scout from each team could be
timed on getting through the complex.
After potholing we took the Scouts
to Aquasplash which is a swimming pool with lots of flumes and
rapids.
We ran a food challenge in the
evening. Each Scout was faced with an assortment of foods that they
had to eat to gain 50 points. Foods included cockles, mussels and
octopus tentacles. We also had a cream cracker competition where we
offered 50 points to any Scout that could eat 3 cream crackers in 2
minutes.
Most of the Scouts slept out on the
last night in the open, round the fire.
Sunday we had archery in the
morning, where Scouts had their scores added to the team points. We
also did the cresta run which is the tobogganing slope at Phasels
Wood.
All of the Scouts enjoyed
themselves and went home very tired. Team C came first place over
the weekend, closely followed by Team B and then Team A.
