- Show (wherever reasonable in a practical way)
that you know the locality surrounding your home and Headquarters,
up to 2 kilometres radius in boroughs and urban districts and up
to 3 kilometres radius in rural districts.
- Either:
Know the
location of the following:
- Doctors, veterinary surgeons, dentists,
hospitals and ambulance station.
- Fire station, police station, garages and
public telephones.
- Bus stops, railway station(s) and routes of
the buses and trains to surrounding areas.
- Local Scout Headquarters, public parks,
theatres, cinemas, churches, museums, barracks, public
conveniences, and any building or place of local interest.
- Homes of your District Commissioner, Scout
Leader, Group Scout Leader and the Scouts in your Patrol.
Or:
For the Metropolitan Police Area the
following alternative to requirements 2 (a), (b), (c) and (d) is
permitted at the discretion of the District Commissioner:
Have a sound general knowledge of which parts of
the country are served by the mainline railways and how to reach
the principal London railway terminals, the main motor coach
stations, the air terminals, and twelve places of national
importance (for example, the Tower of London, London Zoo and so
on) from your Headquarters or home.
- Show that you understand how to use a map of
the district and use it to point out at least six examples in
requirement 2. You should guide the examiner by the quickest route
to any place covered by the above.
- Give directions for a person travelling by
public transport, cycle or car to a camp site approximately eight
kilometres away.
Note:
The Patrol Leaders' Council after consultation with the examiner
may, at its discretion, vary the area described in requirement 1 to
exclude undesirable neighbourhoods, parks or other open spaces, and
include an equivalent area.
