The following report has been written by the 1st Stotfold Ridgway Scout Troop Scout Shout Newsletter Team.

The Eagles won walking a distance of 4.9 miles, the Cobras were close behind, just an extra 200 metres would have got them the prize, they finished with a total distance of 4.7 miles. The troop were taken to Grafham Water in Cambridgeshire and then taken to a secret location (Melchbourne). From there the teams were by themselves although there was a leader close behind them checking up on them every now and again.

The 1st Stotfold Ridgway Scout Troop ran a 'Jail Break' in aid of Comic Relief Red Nose Day 2003.

We ran the event on Saturday 15th March 2003. This was the day after Comic Relief’s Red Nose Day. Scouts were blindfolded for the journey to the Jail Break Base. Scouts were working in patrols and each team was sent off at 2min intervals. The Scouts got sponsored for achieving all of the set tasks.

Teams were issued with a map, compass and a camera. The Teams aims were to find out where they are and then work out a route so that they can photograph themselves at a Post box, Telephone box, Church, minor road, Footpath, Bridle way and a bridge. Teams were also able to compete for the Jail Break 2003 prize. This was issued to the team that got the furthest away from the start point in the 3 hour allocated time.

Throughout the day the teams reported back to base via radio or mobile phone. They reported their positions as a 6 figure grid reference every 30mins and the Jail Break Base kept a record of where each team was as well as where all leaders and helpers were located.

Gold trophies were awarded to each participant of the winning patrol.
