... and finally, after all the planning, fitness work and cycle maintenance, we arive at the day when we have to undertake the 40km cycle ride.
Seventeen Scouts, several parents and leaders turned up at The Scout Hut on Sunday 29th June 2008 at 10:00am to tackle the cycle course. |
| It was a challenging route, starting and finishing at the Scout Hut. There were four groups and here is how they got on. |
We left the Scout Hut at 10 minute intervals and headed for the first check point which was by The Boot in Langford.
Four and a half miles ... is that all!!! |
The next bit up to the water tower was really hard. It was a long, tiring incline which took the strength out of our legs. Once we reached the top, it was over the road bridge with teh A1 running beneath, down the other side and right to Dunton.
11 miles ... nearly half way. |
Lunch at Ashwell and a steep hill up to check point 3.
17 mile completed ... only 8 to go! |
Along the road ... up and down ... throught Bygrave, to the check pointon the outskirts of Baldock.
20 miles!!!!!!!!!!!!!! |
From check point 4 we got onto the A507 and climbed the hill until we reached the Nortonbury Road turning. Down this twisty road, onto the Greenway and back to the Scout Hut.
