Twenty one members of the Monday troop travelled to Kempston on a Thursday evening to test their skill at rock climbing. After an initial safety briefing, we started the activity by traversing round the room and going no more than six feet off the ground.
We then progress to no more than 10 feet off the ground and climbed in pairs. We had to look after each other and make sure our partner was safe when climbing.
Finally we moved to climbing all the way up the wall with a safety rope attached. Now we were climbing in threes, with one climbing, one belaying and one taking in the slack on the rope. We learned very quickly that the person belaying had to be about the same weight as the person climbing, otherwise the person on the floor was lifted into the air when the person climbing fell off. Are you OK Matthew!!
