We spent an evening in early June looking at knife and axe safety. We also intended to practice the use of the hand and felling axe, but unfortunately it was very wey outside, so we looked at lighting a primus stove instead.
This is a cooking device which is not used much these days and involves pre-heating the paraffin with methylated spirits and then applying pressure to vaporise the paraffin to produce a hot flame. Only once did we end up with a jet of flaming paraffin!
Strangley the Fire Engine parked outside and tested their pumps with river water. I don't think they knew we were using primus stoves! |
