Stotfold Scout Group Internet Radio Station
Presenters Tips
sheet
NEVER, NEVER USE BAD LANGUAGE OR MAKE OFFENSIVE COMMENTS IN
FRONT OF A MICROPHONE, WHETHER OPEN OR CLOSED.
NEVER,
NEVER USE SCOUTS SURNAMES ON THE RADIO
NEVER,
NEVER GIVE OUT SCOUTS ADDRESSES OR CONTACT DETAILS.
NEVER,
NEVER USE RUDE OR OFFENSIVE SIGNS ON THE WEB CAM.
When you are in front of the microphone - YOU ARE the station.
Give yourself time to think about what you are going to say before
you say it.
When the track is playing, its thinking time, not chatting time.
Keep an appropriate disc as a standby - use it as a jingle, to give
yourself time to sort out any problems.
Excessive breeziness and laughing at your own jokes will aggravate
your audience.
Speed of delivery is important. Aim at 150-180 words per minute.
Read printed material, news items, etc., before going on air.
Break long lists of names into groups - it sounds better.
When in front of a microphone be yourself - nothing is worse than
insincerity. Smile - it comes across. Be pleasant.
When on air - don't rustle papers, knock the table, tap your pen,
cough, grunt, etc.
Don't go into the studio unprepared - do your homework.
Don't use repetitive or hackneyed phrases such as: "
There you go…"
"OK then…"
"Right…"
"That was…"
"This is…"
Do not talk to
the general audience, talk to individual.
NOT "Scouts might like to know…"
OR "Most of you will know…"
OR "He/She would like to know…"
BUT "You may like to know…"
Be prepared for the unexpected.
Know when to shut up.
