Charnwood 2006

At last the final day was here and we were off to the wilds of Loughborough on our summer camp! Bets were taken and Steve lost to callum cos yes you guessed it the latecomers were the Cheneys! Never mind Steve has a cunning plan to make Muppett late next time he he he. What a motley crew we were as we set off to the camp.

We arrived at Charnwood at about 11am, celebrated by Steve stalling the minibus at the entrance! (who gave him the keys?). After being directed completely around the camp we met with power mad leader number 1 who told us to unload at one spot whilst Drew promptly ignored him and we drove up into our allocated postage stamp sized camp area. Despite our disappointment we quickly set up camp and got the brew on!

Because we had got there so early we had loads of time on our hands so the camp was made perfect and would have stayed that way had the explorers not been they to mess it up – well its what they do best! The first night saw the opening ceremony, and a selection of pictures are shown below.

We even had traditional dancing to get us in the mood!

Our first report comes from Daniel Lewis –

Day 1

Stotfold Explorers had to meet at 7.30 on Saturday for their annual summer camp. It began well with everyone being there on time for once, which meant that we could get on the road for the long drive to Leicester . I was travelling on the mini bus which featured the very colourful characters of Muppet and Klump. I don't know how Steve and Peter put up with their 'great' singing. However Steve's and Peter's music taste wasn’t liked by everyone on the bus. Travelling on the way we had to stop off and purchase our local cuisine 'clangers'. A combination of meat and veg one end and apple pie in the other everyone's mouths were watering. Carrying on our wonderful journey we had a pit-stop 20 minutes from our camp-site. I don't know who’s idea that was but it was a well deserved break from old 70's music. Finally we made it to the campsite, or not, with Steve stalling the mini bus in the entrance of the campsite, but hey all journeys have there mishaps. Trawling around the camp we finally found our site. I think the first thing that came to Drew's mind when he saw our neighbours was ' #loody hell that women looks scary'. In no time at all me and Ted had put up our tent, I think it was nearly a record time! After that Muppet and some of the lads went fishing for fit girls. It was all good and fun except Stony couldn’t figure out our clock method for pointing out the girls. Walking in the evening we made some friends from Leicester (wow we know how to meet people from far away places). Coming back late from our friends site we sat outside talking about the girls that everyone liked then we went to bed.

Note from author – Music was supplied by Peter – I was driving!!!!!!

Our first day on camp was International day – our food consisted of Bedfordshire Clangers and Welsh Cakes but as the week was to prove – organisation was not good. Whilst we thought the picnic was at mid day – it got changed to evening. Anyway we did make our own entertainment.

2nd Report from Daniel Lewis –

Got up early again, had a lovely wash in front the camp. Had a fry- up for breakfast and loads of seconds. Mainly had a lazy consisting of doing #od all and getting told by Drew about how intelligent I was (thanks Drew). played a lot of card games and went to the international street fair. Enjoyed getting loads of free stuff and now we are playing risk.

Most of the following days activities were not very well organised although there was some opportunity for the unit to try different things out. We tended to make our own entertainment – in particular the playing of cards with invited guests!

They didn’t sit around all the time they did actually take part in some activities!

Report from Vicky Evans –

The highlights of today - Clump's day was wearing a woman's bra for fencing. Stoney ate all the custard creams. Muppet is upset because the fallen Madonna with the big boobies has a boyfriend but he has found someone new. Staying on muppet, vicky and muppet both played archery this morning and muppet named himself legaless but could not hit the target lol. Lastly I have a message from drew he would like to wish his wife Jo a happy anniversary

With a further report from Claire O’Neil

Most of the explorers went speed dating for a laugh last night and we all found someone that they got on with. We all had a laugh when muppet decided that the best way to meet a girl was to walk up to them in the stoneage disco and say hi then shout 'lets dance' he did a few moves then gave up on it, now everyone is reminding him most of the time. We are just all relaxing and having a good time here at Charnwood

Muppett and Drew                      Not all of us went speed             You meet some funny

Try their luck                             dating!                                      People at speed dating!

That night, Clump, Muppett and Mullett lay down a challenge to Peter – we can eat as much pasta as you can make – silly boys!

They start of fine --                                The gallon Dixie was full!!           Had enough Clump?

Wednesday was the sub camp day at the water park – the unit was able to join in a number of activities – white water rafting, raft building and canoeing – Drew also managed to get on the white water rafting but reports reached us of a river warning for the Trent – apparently a whale had been washed up – but in fact it was Drew after he had fallen in over the side of the raft! Unfortunately no pictures were taken of this event but here are just a selection of the ones taken – notably was Vicky for her first ever go at rafting and Muppett for doing his Titanic impression!

Half way through the day Daniel Cheney decides that the injury he received the day before playing football was really hurting so he and Dad go off in search of a hospital –  on returning we found out that he had in fact BROKEN his collarbone – so the leaders as usual gave him all the sympathy and TLC they would normally give to members of the unit – see picture!

Wednesday night was the Stone Age Night! This was our fancy dress night – here are just some of the pictures – what a crew!

Thursday was our sub camp activity day but ended up being a chill out day – some of the crew just lazed about others did some activities. Highlights of the day was the leg waxing and marshmallow challenge. There is video footage but the expletives were just too many – safer just to show you the pictures!

Friday was our day at Alton Towers , although Peter and Steve remained in Camp to have a sort out and prepare the evening meal., and then the evening event was all about the closing ceremony.
