As part of their work towards
the Skills badge and as part of the Platinum Award, the Explorer
Unit spent an evening teaching the Cherokee Cubs how to tie four
basic knots – Reef, Bowline, Clove Hitch and Figure of 8.
Two members of the Unit each
took 4 to 6 Cubs and spent over an hour teaching them the various
knots and then they were asked to demonstrate back to the leaders
their new skills. The Explorers were quite nervous of having to be
the instructors and we had spent 3 weeks practising the same knots,
both how to do them and how to teach them! At the end of the
evening, the Unit agreed that they had learned a great deal about
the activity, and certainly knew their knots at then end. The best
way to learn is to try and teach someone else!
The Cherokee Leaders were very
happy with the night and we even joined in the end of session
closing ceremony. Below are some of the pictures from the evening.
