Gift Aid

Using Gift Aid means that for every pound you give, we get an extra 28 pence from the Inland Revenue, helping your member subscriptions or donations go further.

This means that £10 can be turned into £12.80 just so long as subscriptions and donations are made through Gift Aid. Imagine what a difference that could make, and it doesn’t cost you a thing.

So if you want your subscriptions or donations to go further, Gift Aid it. Just complete the form below and send it back to us.

Allowing us to claim Gift Aid on your subscriptions is easy, just download the form below and return it to your section leader.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ's)

About Gift Aid: making your donation tax-efficient
If you are a UK taxpayer, paying income tax and/or capital gains tax, you can make your gifts worth almost 30 per cent more, at no extra cost to you. For every £10 donated, Stotfold Scout Group can claim an extra £2.82 from the Inland Revenue.

How do I know if I pay enough tax to qualify?
As long as you pay enough tax in the year to match the tax that 1st Stotfold Scout Group claims back, your donation will qualify. For example, if you donate £100 in the current tax year, 1st Stotfold Scout Group could claim back £28.21 from the Inland Revenue. To qualify for Gift Aid you must have paid £28.21 over the course of the year.

Do I still qualify if I pay the higher rate of income tax?
If you pay tax at the higher rate of 40 per cent, 1st Stotfold Scout Group can still only reclaim tax at the basic rate of 22 per cent. The benefit to 1st Stotfold Scout Group works out at slightly more than 28p for every £1 you give. If you wish, you can reclaim the remainder on your tax return.

Do I still qualify if I pay the lower rate of income tax?
If you pay tax at the lower rate of 10 per cent, 1st Stotfold Scout Group can still reclaim tax at the standard rate of 22 per cent. The benefit to 1st Stotfold Scout Group works out at slightly more than 28p for every £1 you give. You must have paid enough tax in this tax year for 1st Stotfold Scout Group and other charities to reclaim.

I pay capital gains tax. Can I still Gift Aid my donations?
Yes. The rules for capital gains tax, which are applied to unearned income such as interest from savings, are the same as they are for Income Tax.

What if I no longer want 1st Stotfold Scout Group to claim back the tax on my donations?
Just let 1st Stotfold Scout Group know and we will make sure that tax is only reclaimed on gifts up to the date you contact us.

What if I move house?
Please let 1st Stotfold Scout Group know if you move house or any of your details change, to help us keep records up-to-date.

What if the amount of tax I pay changes?
As long as the total amount of tax you pay each year is more than or equal to the tax that 1st Stotfold Scout Group and other charities reclaim, currently 28p for every pound given, your gift will still qualify for Gift Aid. If you stop paying tax, please let 1st Stotfold Scout Group know and we will cease reclaiming tax on your donations from the day you contact us.
