The 2007 Explorer Summer Camp started at 7.30am on Sunday 29th July, when we all met up at the Scout Hut to board the minibus and to travel to Downes Activity Centre near Biggin Hill in Kent. Having started so early the intention was to stop at the services on the M25 for breakfast, but Steve and Drew, chatting away in the car, completely missed the turn off, so we ended up having breakfast at McDonalds in Locks Bottom, the nearest town to the campsite! We did originally go to Sainsbury’s, but we forgot it didn’t open till 10am (it was Sunday) and then we found out there was no café there! A good start to the week!
Negotiating the narrow lanes we eventually came to the turn off into Downes, where Drews ashen face (when he saw the steepness of the drop down the lane) was a picture to see. Having reported to the centre, we arranged for our trailer to be pulled up the site where we were camping and we had arrived! The rest of that day was spent organising the camp site, and exploring the surrounding areas. |
