Downes 2007 - Monday 30th July

On the Monday, after a leisurely start, our first activity was a gentle (yeah right!) stroll around the countryside, setting off from Downes and walking to Biggin Hill and back. We did have a few problems getting Tanny, Chris and Bono out of their tent but Lizzie and Lisa sorted that one out by holding a loud conversation over their tent!

The route altogether lasted for four and half hours and was 17Kms in total although the Explorers were told only 10Kms! (a cunning plan by Steve!). At each stage, one of the Explorers took part and using their navigation skills taught back at the Scout Hut several months back, we managed (with a few short diversions) to get around easily. The route took us through alternating woodlands and open grass fields, and was all in all a very pleasant walk.

When we got back to camp we found we had been invited to our neighbours camp fire that night. These were a contingent of Danes, who had come over for the Centenary Jamboree being held in Essex.
