AGM Report - 2001

The past year has proved to be a great year for our Ventures. Not only have we grown in numbers (Now stand at 16 Ventures) and we've got a new leader, we have now changed to the new age ranges. Ventures now accept members at the age of 14 instead of 15 1/2.

The Ventures have done a huge range of activites over the last year. Even one for every letter of the alphabet.

Abseiling, Boating, Canoeing, Driving Range, Expedition (all the way to the new service station), Fire lighting, Golf, Hockey, Isle of Wight Camp, Judo, Karting, Laser shooting, Mac Donalds, November camp, Orienteering, Pizza night, Quiz, Rifle Shooting, Swimming, Technology night, Uniform designing, Video night, Water sports, Xmas Decorations, Yachhting, Zebra riding (In Black gang chine, You try to think of something begining with Z)

As well as testing out our film making skills by making our own version of the Blair Witch Project and The Matrix. Also testing our singing skills with a karaokee night. (Evidence of both are available online at www.stotfoldscouts.org.uk/ventures)

We have now started to operate the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme in the Venture Unit.

7 of the Ventures went away at Easter on a Venture camp to the Isle of Wight. This consisted of many activites like canoeing, dinghy sailing, yachting, judo, rifle shooting, discos, head hunting, swimming as well as visiting the main attractions on the island. (Again, photos available to view online at www.stotfoldscouts.org.uk/ventures.

All Ventures now have thier own T-Shirt with our logo on and thier name printed on the back. We also have our own chrome woggles and fleeces.

We have been on parade at the Rememberance day parade as well as being the only Ventures in the district at the St Georges Day Parade.

There are a few changes due in the next year with new uniforms, new logo, and a name change from Venture Scouts to Explorer Scouts.

My thanks to Andrew Brember who has decided to join us as a leader this year. Also thanks to everyone who has helped in the running of the Ventures: Ray Kilby for transport and activities (and more duties way beyond his role as GSL), Clare Kilby for helping me with the Venture accounts and to all the Ventures for taking part and enjoying themselves, which is what it's all about.

Heres to another year of Venturing or should I say Exploring.

Charles Kilby
