 BIGGJAM 06

Over the weekend of 23rd – 25th June Scout Groups from all over the Biggleswade & District Group came together at Boyd Campsite in Henlow for a weekend of fun.

49 Cubs and Scouts plus 13 adults from our Group were there to join in.  After breakfast and the opening ceremony on Saturday morning the activities began.  These included – shooting, archery, rafting, laser shooting, climbing wall, bouncy castle, slide, bungee running, sumo wrestling, and assault course.  In addition to these activities each Group ran their own activities on their sites which everyone could have a go at.  Our site had a slippery pole, stocks, ski races and water rockets running all weekend.

At 12 noon on the Saturday 25 Beaver Scouts from our Group arrived to join in the fun for the day.  At 1.00pm they made their way to the flag pole to join with other Beavers in a picnic to celebrate 20 years of Beaver Scouting.  Cubs were also invited to this to celebrate 90 years of Cub Scouting.  A magician was on hand to entertain everyone while they ate their picnics and then they played Pass the Parcel, had a piece of birthday cake and lined up for a present from the Lucky Dip.  After this everyone was free to enjoy all the activities listed above.

At 6.00pm everyone went back to the sub-camp to enjoy a meal together before the Beavers went off to their camp fire and a sing song.  This was great fun and the Beavers learnt a few songs to teach their parents!  At 8.00pm parents arrived to take home some very tired Beavers who had had a very enjoyable day.

The rest of the campers then went to enjoy their camp fire which was followed by an excellent firework display.  By 11.00pm they were all exhausted and ready for bed.

After a Scouts Own service on Sunday morning the Cubs and Scouts did the activities that they had not done on Saturday and there was also a visit from Sandra Mott accompanied by her owls.  The awards and closing ceremony followed after lunch and then it was time for everyone to go home.

An excellent weekend and thanks go to Roy Snell, the Assistant District Commissioner for Scouts in the Biggleswade District.
