Comanche Cubs Annual Report 2000- 2001
Another year has passed by packed with activities
visits camps and we even managed to fit in some badge work.
Following the AGM last year we finished off the
term by taking advantage of the new archery equipment and in-group
instructors. All of the cubs managed to miss each other and hit the
target. Back woods cooking was next this is cooking on a fire and
not as some thought taking an omelette apart to re-make an egg. We
tried hiking and rafting but somehow we never managed to loose any
cubs. The last night was an open BBQ for all the mums dads brothers
and sisters. No we didn't let the cubs practice their back woods
cooking.
Squeezed in to this hectic schedule was the
Carnival where we dressed as sweets. The day will be best remembered
for the now annual gun run. We actually won for the second year, but
as the cubs and spectators will testify it is the taking part that
count and having fun.
The autumn term started off with award work but we
were soon outside with a muddy night hike. There was a fancy dress
scruffs night, a skiing night, and a party night. Once again there
were specific nights for badge work or craft work but these
inevitably include a host of rowdy games.
The new year bought more hikes and then Pancake
night, always popular I just a little messy. The visit to go ten-pin
bowling has had to be postponed but we are planning to go later this
term. All of this has been fitted around award work and games
evenings which due to the weather over the winter months has been in
the Scout Hut. Things are beginning to liven up now that hopefully
the light nights herald the advent of summer and more outside
activities. We are already practising for this year's gun run.
All in all quite an active varied year, and then
there were the camps. We took part in the millennium camp, the
memories of mud and rain come flooding back, but the Saturday and
Monday were dry and sunny. It's just that Friday night and all day
Sunday made the site a real mud bath, as most of the mums will
testify.
There was also a Sixers and Seconds camp with the
Thursday Cubs. Overall camping was a good introduction to camping
that will be extended in Scouts.
This will be my last report, as I will be giving
up my warrant at the end of the summer term. I must thank Stewart
and Jill Smith for all of their help and support over the years.
Thanks also to the parents for helping out with the fetching &
carrying, and finally to the boys that have passed through the pack
over the years. Akela Martin Fox |
