May/June 2008
As part of our Friendship Challenge Badge we decided to take part in the Cheeky Monkey Marathon Challenge raising money for the Children with Leukaemia charity.
The Beavers were told about the charity and how the money would be used and they coloured in some Cheeky Monkey pictures. The idea was that they would raise money by doing 26 Good Turns over the next few weeks and each week we would ask them what they had been doing and add leaves to our ‘Good Turn Tree’. They took home a letter, sponsor envelope, sheet for taping coins to and a sheet to complete with all their ‘Good Turns’ plus some ideas on the back of what sort of things they could do.
Towards the end of June they brought back all their sheets and envelopes full of money. We raised the magnificent sum of £457.80 of which £400.00 was sent to the Children with Leukaemia charity and the rest will be used for a special activity later on in the year.
Some examples of ‘Good Turns’ undertaken by the Beavers:-
Laying the breakfast table for a week, tidying up at Drama Club, reading their sister a story,, helping their Teacher put the books away, phoning Grandma for a chat, learning their phone numbers and addresses, walking to school for a week, found out Mozart was born on his birthday, fed the rabbits, gave Mum a foot rub, helped clean out the guinea pigs, learnt the emergency numbers, gave up £5 pocket money to charity, recycled 26 items, found 83 words from ‘Children with Leukaemia’ and wrote a lovely note that made Mummy happy and many more.
