On Sunday the Cheyenne and Chickasaw Beavers met up at the Scout Hut
at 8.45am. After sorting out lifts we all left in convoy for Bromham.
On arrival we found the tent that Charles and Ray had put up for us
earlier in the day. We unloaded all our things and got ready for the
opening ceremony. This was followed by the beavers (about 300 of
them) taking part in different activities, from archery, panning for
gold, metal detecting, water activities and slide, crazy hair, cross
bow shooting, orienteering, tin can alley, hockey to name a few. We
also visited the tuck shop. We then stopped for a well earned lunch.
The sky was now getting very black and we knew that rain was
imminent. We put our coats on and all gathered around to get the
info on the treasure hunt. We had to go into the woods and find as
many pieces of coloured paper as possible. The beavers were off and
the heavens opened. We managed to get most of our beavers back to
the tent but a few just took off on the mission to collect as many
pieces of paper as possible, irrespective of the fact that the rain
was coming down in buckets. They eventually arrived back at the tent
soaked through but excited that they had found loads of pieces of
paper.
The rain continued on and off for about an hour. Some of the beavers
got into dry clothes, some of which were borrowed from other beavers
in a multitude of colours. Some of the beavers decided to take part
in the water fight, with queasy bottles. So it was out of dry
clothes and into the trunks and t-shirts again.
More clothes changing before the cake cutting ceremony started
followed by some action songs without the camp fire, as it was too
to light. After the singing we received a piece of cake and a badge
commemorating the 20th anniversary of the beavers joining the Scout
Association.
We then made the trip home, tired, some of us wet but having enjoyed
a great day out.
